Whistle-Blower Protection Program
KrisAnne Hall
|
Since its inception, The Patrick Henry Center has been fighting the good fight to save our liberty and prosperity. Through our Whistle-Blower Protection Program, we assist those Patriots who realize that freedom is never free, and have the courage to speak truth to power.
Our latest Whistle-Blower client is KrisAnne Hall. KrisAnne is a loving mother and pastor's wife living in a small town in Florida. After serving honorably in the United States Army and attending law school, KrisAnne secured the position of Assistant State's Attorney in Florida.
Through her studies and work, KrisAnne became increasingly interested in our Founding Fathers and the Bill of Rights. She was inspired by the way our Forefathers stood up to an abusive government, overstepping its authority and restricting individual liberties.
|
While working in the State Attorney's office, KrisAnne met another prosecutor named Robert L. "Skip" Jarvis, Jr. She worked diligently at her job, proving herself a capable and competent attorney. Then, in 2007, demands of motherhood caused her to take a part-time job working for a nonprofit group dedicated to individual rights.
In 2009, KrisAnne returned to the State Attorney's office due to financial considerations and her children's full-time enrollment in Christian school. Upon return, she found her former colleague, "Skip" Jarvis, was now the boss. KrisAnne quickly realized that she and Jarvis did not share the same political views. Jarvis showed no restraint in discussing his strong liberal political views in the office, and regularly spouted his negative opinions about conservatives, the Tea Party movement, and even Sarah Palin. In contrast, KrisAnne saved her political opinions for her personal, free time.
The community recognized KrisAnne as an experienced constitutional lawyer, having a special interest in citizens' First Amendment rights. She loved participating in public discussions about the Constitution, Bill of Rights, and our Founding Fathers -- including Patrick Henry. As a result, KrisAnne regularly spoke at Tea Party rallies - in her personal capacity, on her personal time.
Back at work, Jarvis continued his rants about conservatives - expressing his personal views on official company time. Nevertheless, KrisAnne continued performing her job just as before, and well by all accounts.
She regularly exercised her First Amendment rights outside of the workplace, just as she encouraged others to do during her lectures on the Bill of Rights. For example, she appeared on radio talk shows to discuss her belief that ObamaCare was unconstitutional, and made appearances and presentations to small groups of concerned citizens - again, on her own time. She loved promoting liberty, and believed she had an obligation to point out when a law was unconstitutional because she had a unique education in this area of law.
Everything came to a head for KrisAnne on April 17, 2010, when Skip Jarvis emailed her, complaining about her appearance on a local radio talk show, where she spoke about "Big Government," taxes, and the failure of government to adhere to the Constitution. Jarvis stated that he received one complaint from a citizen that KrisAnne used her official position to express political opinions.
Jarvis told KrisAnne that he would not allow her to participate in this type of activity! If she wanted to keep her job, she needed to keep quiet. KrisAnne denied using her official position, stating that she used her personal time and personal resources for her appearances. Jarvis responded that he did not want her speaking to any "right-wing fringe group."
KrisAnne wanted to continue speaking out for liberty, so to be on the safe side, she sought the opinion of an experienced, seasoned attorney. The attorney reassured her that her speaking was well within acceptable bounds and Jarvis had no basis for threatening her livelihood.
KrisAnne could have sat down, and shut up - as her boss demanded. But she wondered how her silence would appear to the thousands of citizens she encouraged to exercise their own rights. She wondered how she could explain this hypocrisy to her children - especially if the day ever arrived that their liberty was gone. KrisAnne notified Jarvis that she would not be silent, and she continued speaking for liberty.
On May 24, 2010, Jarvis told KrisAnne she was about to be fired - although he had no complaints about her performance as a prosecutor. He told her that, unless she stopped speaking to these "right-wing fringe groups," he would fire her. However, Jarvis himself often spoke at rallies and in media outlets about his own liberal political viewpoints. In a subsequent media interview, when asked why he fired KrisAnne, Jarvis stated that she was a great attorney, but that he could not tolerate "a Sarah Palin" in his office.
KrisAnne spent the past year fighting Jarvis's abuse in the court system. She is but one example of the patriotic, hard-working, liberty-loving American still fighting for our constitutional rights. KrisAnne's story is just one of many instances where an intolerant official abuses the power of office to punish their political 'enemies.' The Whistle-Blower Protection Fund allows The Patrick Henry Center to assist and support brave patriots like KrisAnne and her family in the fight against Big Government abuse and disregard of our Constitution and the Bill of Rights.
