STOP SOCIALISM BLOW THE WHISTLE ON TYRANNY
Obama Government annoyed once again
Washington, DC - More than 100,000 marchers gathered in the Capital Sunday, September 12 to protest the rise of Big Government, the arrogance of Congress and the largesse of entitlement spending. Marching from the Washington Monument, up 15th St. NW and down Pennsylvania Avenue to the Capitol, the marchers showed strong turnout accompanying their Patriots in St. Louis, MO and Sacramento, CA.
Organized by FeedomWorks, many groups were visible. The Patrick Henry Center for Individual Liberty was one of the more prominent. With thousands of messaging pieces circulated through PHC staff and Tea Party Patriot coordinators, PHC was visible as far as the eye could see.
People waved bright yellow and black stop sign shaped hand signs, with the bold message: STOP SOCIALISM! In addition to these easily understandable slogans, participants marched with wristbands branding their mission for “Liberty or Death” and blew yellow whistles with all their might proclaiming that they have had enough.
Asked about the different messages that PHC distributed which helped marchers communicate, Gary Aldrich, President and Founder of PHC, commented that “people just want to be heard. Shrill whistles, proclaiming a bitter, hard-nosed message like ‘give me back my liberty,’ is exactly what needs to be heard by Congress and the President. These might be nice people, with pleasant smiles, but the message is grave and the mission is to throw off oppressive chains. Our message is the truth.”
The complexion of the rally can be described as diverse. In regards to age, there were young and old. High-schoolers, college students, young professionals, the middle-age and retirement age citizens were marching energetically; waving homemade signs that stated their perspectives on the issues that brought most to the steps of the Capitol: Big Government, economic instability and lack of transparency.
Many groups came together for this event as well. The Heritage Foundation, Liberty Central, RedState, Tea Party Patriots and more participated while PHC performed messaging. “This is a wonderful occurrence,” Aldrich remarked. “It shows that there is a coalescence of influence at the perfect time. Too often, movements fall apart before they can cause significant effect. It looks like this is going to persist. I am proud.”
